Textdock in Webex

Textdock is the Webex sidebar app that puts SMS and WhatsApp conversations directly inside the Webex app your team already uses. No separate inbox, no separate login, no separate phone on someone's desk.

Most customers pick Textdock over the email-based mode because the whole team can see and reply to the same thread without forwarding anything.

What Textdock is

Textdock is a Webex embedded app published in the Webex App Store. Once installed, it shows up as a sidebar icon in Webex on desktop, mobile, and web.

Every text conversation with a customer becomes a Webex Space. The space is named after the customer, shows the full message history, and behaves like any other Webex space you already use for internal chat.

Sharing one number

The main company number is shared. When a customer texts in, the message lands in a Webex Space that the whole team (or a defined group of users) can see.

Anyone who is a member of the space can reply. The reply goes out as SMS or WhatsApp from the same company number. The customer never sees the internal handoff.

This is the difference between business messaging and personal messaging. If one person is out, someone else picks up the thread. The conversation does not sit in a single inbox.

How to install

Textdock is distributed through the Webex App Store. You do not need a separate download.

  1. Open Webex on your desktop.
  2. Click the Apps icon in the left sidebar.
  3. Search for Textdock.
  4. Click install and follow the approval prompt.
  5. Sign in with your Vocatech credentials when asked.

After the first user installs, each teammate who should have access installs the same app in their own Webex. We pair their Webex identity with the right set of spaces on our side.

Adding team members

Each customer thread is a Webex Space. To give a teammate access to a specific customer conversation, add them to that space the same way you would add someone to any internal Webex space.

For blanket access (a team lead who should see every thread), let us know and we configure the membership at the account level so new spaces automatically include them.

Replying and handing off

A reply in the Textdock space sends out to the customer as SMS or WhatsApp, depending on how that thread started. You do not pick the channel each time. The channel follows the customer.

If someone on your team starts typing a reply, others can see the typing indicator inside Webex. That prevents two people from answering the same customer at the same time.

When it fits

Textdock is the right choice if your team uses Webex daily. If your team lives in email and does not open Webex often, the email-based messaging mode may fit better. Each number is one mode. Pick the one your team will actually watch.
