Messaging

The Messaging inbox in the portal

The same conversations in a browser: search, group texts, notifications.

The short answer

Where: The Messaging page in the portal. Same conversations as Webex, in a browser.
For whom: A company with no Webex seats, or anyone who wants a second window beside Webex.
What it does: Read and reply, search, start a conversation, group texts, browser notifications.
Who can open it: A portal login with the Messaging permission.

What it is

The Messaging page in the portal shows the same conversations that arrive in Webex, in a browser. It runs together with Webex, some people in one and some in the other, or on its own for a company with no Webex seats. It opens on a phone or a tablet browser too.

Around the page

  • Search finds a name, a number or words in a message across the last ninety days.
  • From, in the sidebar header, filters to one of your numbers. It appears only when you can see more than one number, and it lists numbers that already hold a conversation.
  • New conversation starts a thread with a number you have not texted before. Type the full ten-digit number. The Group option builds one thread of two to ten numbers where everyone sees every reply.
  • The bell turns on browser notifications, so a new text raises a notification on your computer while the page is open in the background. The notification carries no message text.
  • Not delivered under a message names the reason a text failed. See why a text failed.

While registration is pending

On a number whose carrier registration has not cleared yet, the page shows the incoming conversations and blocks sending with a "registration pending" notice. Receiving works; sending starts the moment the registration clears. See 10DLC registration.

Who can open it

A portal login with the Messaging permission. A login that has been limited to certain people's calls in Reports cannot use Messaging, whichever way the limit is set; a login gets one or the other. The mass-text button in the header appears only on a company where mass texting is switched on and only for an Advanced login. See portal logins and what each can see and before you send a text blast.

Blocking a number

A number that should never reach you again is blocked on the company's Settings page, for calls and texts at once. See blocking a caller.
