Webex is the app. It is the only softphone Vocatech supports. Desktop for your main work computer, mobile for your phone, tablet if you want it. All three sign in with the same credentials.
You should have received an email during onboarding with your Webex sign-in address and a temporary password. If you did not, call 718.395.1550 and we will resend it.
Download
On desktop, go to webex.com/downloads and pick Windows or Mac. On mobile or tablet, open the App Store on iOS or Google Play on Android and search for Webex. The publisher is Cisco.
Do not install a trial from a marketing page. The main Webex app is the right one. It is free to install and will recognize your Vocatech account once you sign in.
- Open Webex.
- Enter the email address we set up for you during onboarding. It usually matches your business email.
- Enter the temporary password from the onboarding email.
- Set a new password when Webex prompts you. Save it somewhere you trust.
The first sign-in takes about a minute while Webex pulls down your extension, voicemail, and call history.
Allow microphone
On first launch, your operating system will ask for microphone and camera access. Allow both. Without the microphone, Webex cannot place a call. Without the camera, video meetings will not work.
If you clicked Deny by accident, fix it in System Settings on Mac or Privacy and security on Windows. Search for Webex in the microphone list and turn it on.
Make a test call
Click the dial pad inside Webex and call your own cell phone. Talk for a few seconds, then end the call. If it rings through and audio sounds clean on both ends, you are done.
If the call does not connect, check that your internet is working and that no VPN or content filter is blocking Webex. Call support if the test fails twice.
Install on mobile
Sign into the same Webex account on your phone. Calls will ring both devices unless you change the setting. Most people leave it that way so they never miss a call.
Allow notifications when the app asks. Without notifications, the phone will not alert you to incoming calls when the app is in the background.
